One of the many things young children like about animals are all the different kinds of noises that they make. For many children, pretending to be an animal and going around barking like a dog, mewing like a kitten, or clucking like a chicken is just so much fun.

In this beautifully illustrated board book, a lovely rhyming text takes us into the lives of ten animals, and for each one children are invited to make the noise that each animals makes.

We begin with a little bear and we are asked “can you growl like a bear, rolling in the snow?” and then “Can you chatter like a chimp swinging to and fro?” We go on to hear the noises that a dolphin, a honeybee, an elephant, a tree frog, a leopard, a cockatoo, a wolf, and a panda make.

In each one of the luminous illustrations the animals are shown in their chosen environment, and we get a sense of the world that they live in.

At the end of the narrative the author shows us all the animals that are “quiet now” because they are fast asleep. Perhaps we should join them.
