A little boy is at the beach, and he is thoroughly excited. He runs towards the water, but his flip-flops keep sinking into the sand, slowing him down. Quickly he kicks the flip-flops off only to discover that the sand is hot. He has to run!
At last his feet touch the cool wet sand. Waves curl up around his legs, and he loves the feeling. Then the little boy feels something hard under his toes. He has found a shell, a little beach treasure.
Using a minimal text and impressionist style artwork, the creators of this book present one child’s beach experience in a simple yet memorable way. As we read, we can almost feel the sand between our toes, and feel what it would be like to bob about in the water.
This is the second title in the Being in the World series, published by Enchanted Lion Books. Like the first book, In the Meadow, Beach Feet explores a season, capturing the essence of summer, and showing young children that each season has it’s own delights to explore.
