Little children love to look at pictures of other babies, and not just human ones. Puppies, kittens, and ducklings delight them, and often the names of these little creatures are some of the first words little children learn.
In this novelty board book, the editors at Dorling Kindersley give little children a title that has a clever format; one which encourages them to think, and one which has interactive elements that make the book fun to explore.
On every double page spread, the text on the left hand page asks us a question. For example, “Who loves soft snowflakes?” On the right hand page, there is a picture and a tab to lift. When the tab is lifted, a hidden page is revealed. Text inside the hidden page answers the question, and there is a picture of a baby animal. In answer to the snowflake question, we find out that a penguin chick likes snowflakes and that “His thick coat keeps him warm.” A picture of a fluffy little chick accompanies this text, and we also find out what kind of noise the chick makes.
In all, little children will learn about six baby animals. Though the text is simple, the editors at DK manage to include many facts, giving little children the kind of information that they will enjoy learning.
