Candace Fleming

Candace Fleming, the author of several delightful picture books, and more than fifty magazine articles lives in a suburb of Chicago with her husband and two sons. Ms. Fleming says she remembers when she discovered the magic of words. It was the day my second grade teacher, Miss Johnson, held up a horn-shaped basket of fruit and said, Cornucopia. The word made me shiver. It had cadence. It had resonance. It felt to me, like a song. I skipped home from school chanting. Cornucopia! Cornucopia! Cornucopia. For the first time I realized how wonderful words can be. School Library Journal wrote that Muncha! Muncha! Muncha! was a hilarious hop through the garden. Publishers Weekly wrote that Who Invited You? was a clever cumulative; counting caper. Ms. Fleming also enjoys bringing history to life for children.
