Annie, her pet rabbit Snowball, and Annie’s father are happy that they live next door to Henry and his family. Henry and Annie are cousins and they have a grand time exploring things together and having adventures. Snowball and Henry’s big dog Mudge are also friends, as are the two dads. Though Annie’s life is full of loving people, her father is missing something in his life. He needs someone to love and one day in May the perfect someone shows up.

Annie knows that something is up when her father starts singing and looking happy. He tells Annie that he has met a lady called Martha who “loves children and bunnies” and who is “a very nice person.”  Martha is clearly an animal lover because she has a cat called Rose Cat. Annie smiles when she hears this news, but she cannot help being nervous when she goes to meet Martha for the first time. What if Martha does not like her?

In this thirteenth Anne and Snowball title, Annie’s life takes a dramatic turn when her father falls in love. Young readers will appreciate how Annie feels. After all, change can be been unsettling at times.
