It is the last week that Amy and her mother will be at their "island house" and they are eager to get all they can out of the day. Up very early they set off carrying their paints and sketch pads and are soon doing studies of the sunrise. We join Amy and her mother as they explore their territory, looking at the creatures that they find there. We can also look at the pictures that they draw and appreciate the wealth of flora and fauna that can be found in the unique environment that they are investigating. There are so many different habitats on their island, each one having its own feel and its own personality; there is the windswept beach, the gloomy and quiet forest, the rustling marshes, and much more.

Filled with lovely illustrations, the book is a collection of anecdotes from the mother and daughter’s summer adventures, and it is also a collection of their natural history observations. All in all it is both highly interesting and very informative, as well as being a very personal ‘picture’ of a much loved placed for a mother and her daughter.
