Jackson is not like his brothers and his sisters; he is a rabbit with dreams, for Jackson loves the sea and more than anything he wishes he could sail away on a ship to see all kinds of wonderful far-away lands. Even though his mother tells him that rabbits do not go on ships, Jackson is determined to try his luck and one early morning he runs away from home.
With his new friend Bunny to keep him company Jackson heads for place where he can board a ship and soon the two little animals are in the hold of a large wooden vessel. The problem is that they have neither food nor water, and they have no idea where the ship is going nor how long it is going to take for them to get there.
Rabbit fans of all ages will greatly enjoy this chapter book which offers up one explanation of how Australia came to be overrun with rabbits. This simple yet engaging adventure tale will amuse young readers and give them a taste of Dick King-Smith’s unique, often amusing, narrative style.
