Many children are fascinated by space. They build rockets out of boxes and furniture, and dress up as astronauts during Halloween. They learn the names of the constellations, and gather facts about the planets, which they then proudly share with others. They look up at the moon at night and try to imagine what it would be like to visit it.
This wonderful board book takes children through the alphabet, presenting them with one space related topic for every letter of the alphabet. Some of the topics might be familiar, like A is for Astronaut, and E is for Earth, but others will challenge children to learn new things about the heavens. For example, the letter N is for Nebula, and we learn that this phenomenon is “a cloud of dust and gas in space.” The letter K is for the Kepler Spacecraft. This vessel was sent into space to “look for Earth-like planets where liquid water and life might exist.”
This large format, richly illustrated board book would make a wonderful gift for the child who has a fondness for space.
