There once was a carpenter who had built many homes for the people who lived in his village. One day he decided to build a house for himself so he went to a meadow near the edge of the forest and got to work. He soon met and befriended a little orphaned reindeer whom he called Little Star. The two became inseparable and Little Star helped the carpenter in any way that he could to build the house.

For many months the carpenter labored on his house but it was a lot of work for one man to do. Then in the fall the villagers came out to join him and to help him finish the house so that he would have a home to live in by Christmas. Together they were able to complete the house and turn it into a lovely home. And, as Christmas got closer and closer, the carpenter was busy in his workshop working on a special Christmas surprise which he was making for the whole village.

At last the time came to get his Christmas tree. With Little Star to help, the carpenter and the village children went into the woods to get their tree. They brought it back to the carpenter?s lovely house where they decorated it and made it beautiful.

At last Christmas Eve arrived and all the friends who had helped to build the lovely house came to celebrate the holiday with the carpenter and Little Star. Now they would get to see the surprise that the carpenter had been working on for so long.
