Chester Raccoon is very sad because he has to go to school, and he does not want to leave his mother. He tries to persuade her to let him stay home with her so that he can read his books, play with his toys, and spend time with his friends.

Chester’s mother assures her son that he is going to love going to Owl’s school, and promises him that he has “nothing to fear.” To help him, she tells him about a wonderful secret that will make his time at school “Seem as warm and cozy” as his time at home.

Finding creative ways to make children feel safe and secure is very important. Sometimes the old standbys don’t work and grownups have to do something creative that does the job. In this charming story we meet a mother who comes up with a special little “secret” way to make her little cub feel loved, no matter where he is.
