The Mole Sisters and the Cool Breeze
Roslyn Schwartz
Picture Book (Series)
Ages 3 to 6
Annick Press, 2002, 1-55037-770-1
It is a hot day and the Mole Sisters are feeling very hot indeed as they lie panting in their burrow. Up above ground things are not much better. why even the dandelion is feeling the heat for there hasn’t been a nice cool breeze “for weeks.” What are the sisters to do?
Then they decide to take matters into their own paws; the two little moles fan themselves with dandelion leaves creating a little breeze which revives and refreshes them. Unfortunately the dandelions still feel hot. Being kind-hearted souls the mole sisters try to do what they can to help the dandelions. Their efforts do indeed make the dandelions feel better but now the poor sisters feel hotter, and fluffier, than ever.
This charming little tale with its simple text and its often funny little colored pencil illustrations will make readers of all ages laugh out loud. Anyone who has suffered on a hot day will appreciate what the mole sisters, and their plant friends, are experiencing. Whatever will these amusing little moles do next?
