Red Dragon Codex

Rebecca Shelley

Fiction (Series)

Ages 8 to 12

Mirrorstone Books, 2008, 0786949252

Mudd and his sister Hiera live in a small village with a seer called Shemnara, who has taken care of them since they were very little. One day Shemnara is snatched away by a red dragon. Shemnara managed to write a note before she was taken in which she asks Mudd to help her “or I’ll be killed. Seek the silver dragon.” Mudd knows that a silver dragon can defeat a red one, but he does not know much else. After consulting Shemnara’s vision notes, he discovers that a silver dragon once created a silver pendent. The pendent can be used by the person who finds it to summon the silver dragon. Apparently the pendent was hidden behind a door that is decorated with dwarf-made runes.

Mudd and Heira quickly set off for the dwarf village of Greenhollow, where they hope they will be able to find someone who can help them find the hidden door. Unfortunately, Mudd’s plans are quickly upset. The red dragon attacks Greenhollow as well, and Mudd and Heira are joined in their quest by a dwarf called Drakecutter. Along the way, Mudd, Kiera and Drakecutter pick up two other travelers who might, or might not, be able to help them find and defeat the terrible red dragon.

In this exciting Dragon Codices title, readers will join a very unusual group of characters who not only have extraordinary adventures, but who are also put in a position where they have to come to terms with who they are and what they want to be. Both entertaining and thought-provoking, this is a title that fans of the fantasy genre will really enjoy.
