Poppleton in Spring

Cynthia Rylant

Illustrated by Mark Teague

Fiction (Series)

Ages 6 to 8

Scholastic, 1999, 0-545-07867-9

It is spring and Poppleton the pig has decided that his home needs a spring cleaning. It is full of “things,” all of which Poppleton likes but many of which he doesn’t actually need.

And so Poppleton gathers up boxes of odds and ends, and he takes them to Cherry Sue’s house. Perhaps she would like to have some of his treasures. Since Cherry Sue is cleaning out her house, she does not really want Poppleton’s bits and pieces, but she agrees to let him keep his things in her attic.

In the attic Poppleton finds (among other things) a box of yarn, a box of thumbtacks, and a box of shoelaces. In not time he is returning to his home with a whole new set of things that will fill his house to “overflowing” once more.

In this delightful book, beginner readers will find an entertaining trio of stories that perfectly capture the joys – and woes – of spring. With humor and sensitivity Cynthia Rylant gives her young audience tales that are sure to satisfy and entertain.
