Bear Stays Up for Christmas
Karma Wilson
Illustrated by Jane Chapman
Picture Book (Series)
Ages 3 to 6
Simon and Schuster, 2004, 0-689-85278-9
Bear is having his winter nap when his friends wake him up. It is Christmas Eve and they really want to have their friend Bear awake for Christmas this year. It is not easy keeping Bear up though, for Bear is every so sleepy. To help him stay awake the friends go out and get a Christmas tree, they keep themselves busy baking and preparing for the big day. As evening falls though Bear's friends, quite worn out with the effort of keeping him awake, fall asleep. Then Bear gets to work, determined to make lots of Christmas surprises for his friends to enjoy in the morning. Little does Bear know that he too will have a surprise of his own.
This charming new Bear book is a perfect read-aloud book for a cold winter day. The author reminds us of how Christmas is indeed a time of giving, and of giving with love. Readers will enjoy the other Bear and friends books, "Bear Snores on" and "Bear wants more."
