It is going to be Toot’s birthday in a few days and Puddle cannot figure out what to give his dearest friend for a present. As Puddle says, "Toot is special," and that is "the problem." What do you get for someone who is special and who has everything?

Puddle goes into lots of different kinds of shops to find the perfect gift, but none of the things he sees is the right thing, the perfect thing that Toot will like. Then Puddle goes into a pet shop where he finds something truly special; a parrot called Tulip. What makes Tulip very different from all the other animals is that she is really intelligent and she is homeless. Puddle’s warm and kind heart is touched by Tulip's plight and he decides that there is only one thing to do.

Warm, and filled with Holly Hobbie's striking and lively watercolor illustrations, this wonderful Toot and Puddle book will delight readers of all ages. The story is a celebration of true friendship and readers will be hard pressed not to feel a deep fondness for Puddle, who goes to so much trouble to find his friend the perfect present.
