Stenny Green is very excited because tomorrow the Hindenburg, a huge airship that is flying all the way to the United States from Germany, will be arriving on the nearby airfield. More than anything Stenny wants to tour the great ship, and he has high hopes that his big brother, who works at the naval air station, will be able to make this happen.

Stenny is therefore very disappointed when his brother explains that a tour will not be possible when the Hindenburg arrives the next day because things are just “so hectic.”  Not wanting to lose face with his friends, Stenny tells them that he will still be taking the tour, even though he knows that such a thing is not possible. It is only after the words are out of his mouth that he realizes that he has got himself into a real mess.

Though he knows he is not going to have a tour, Stenny still goes to the airfield to watch the Hindenburg land. None of the spectators ever expect that this landing is going to end badly.

In this History’s Kid Heroes graphic novel, young readers will see what took place on May 6, 1937 when the Hindenburg tried to land on an airfield in Lakehurst, New Jersey. Through the eyes of Stenny Green (a fictional character), they will come to appreciate how this event affected the people who witnessed it.

With a well written text and full color graphic novel style art throughout, this book takes young readers back in time to an interesting moment in history.
