The day was fresh and touched with mist as the father and his daughter Kathryn walked into the valley. As they walked, the father pointed out all the things that would be gone when the dam was finished and when the valley was flooded. The two talked of the musicians and singers who had performed in the valley over the many years. There had been dances and parties, and people had danced the night away to the sound of pipers, violins, and other instruments.

Together the father and daughter enter the empty buildings in the town and there Kathryn plays her violin as her father sings. Together they offer up a last tribute to what once was, and present a gift to what will be in the valley in the days to come.

This true story describes how a father and daughter, Mike and Kathryn Tickell, visited a valley in Northumberland that was later flooded to create Kielder Water. The two said their goodbyes to the valley, and welcomed the lake, in a beautiful way through music.

This incredibly beautiful picture book shows to perfection how loss and new beginnings are intimately intertwined.
