One sunny day, caribou pulls a sled up a hill. He is soon joined by nine other animals, who all climb onto the sled, eager to have a grand ride down the hill. As they begin their descent, caribou says “Slip over! Slide over!” The animals do as he asks, and seal slips off the sled and into the snow.

Further down the hill they are racing along when caribou says “It’s snowing! Get going!” They all get going except for Hare, who hops off the sled.

One by one the animals shoot, whirl, flip, squeeze, wipe, muddle, and bail off the sled until caribou is all by himself. Little does he know that his former sledding companions are much closer than he realizes.

This wonderful picture book with its amusing illustrations and its rhyming text will give little children a delightfully raucous bookish ride that is full of delicious words, funny characters, and amusing surprises. Who knew that counting backwards could be so much fun!
