One day Grandma arrived at their house very early in the morning. She explained that she wanted to take the girls somewhere special even though "today is a school day." The girl’s parents agreed to this remarkable decision because, as Grandma put it "sometimes some things are more important that school." Even the principal of the girls’ school agreed to let Grandma take her two granddaughters somewhere special for the day.

The one thing Grandma won’t do was to tell the girls where she was taking them. They have to wait and see. But then, at last, the girls saw where they were going and when Grandma started singing a familiar song to them they know exactly what was going on; their Grandma was taking them to a ball game.

With the ever popular "Take me out to the ball game" song incorporated into the story, the author has created a charming little tale which captures the special-ness of going to a ball game. We see all the things that make such a event unique and celebrate with the two children as they watch the game, eat their popcorn, and cheer like mad.
