It is a time of great pageantry, a much awaited event, and it offers men and women from all over the world with the opportunity to have a moment of greatness and to see their names in the history books. These are the summer Olympic Games and in this excellent book we discover all sorts of information about the games and their history.

We begin at the beginning, in Olympia in Greece where the games were held to help ease the tensions that existed between the peoples of Greece at that time. Then we learn about the modern games which began in 1896 in Athens, Greece. Since then the games have grown in size and scope including many new events which were not a part of those early games. We learn about the swimming races, running races, the gymnastics, and much more. There are also sections that describe what occurred at six different games in the years 1912, 1936, 1968, 1988, 1992 and 2000. All in all this is a book which gives one a fascinating look at this wonderful spectacle.
