Imagine that it is snowing outside and that gentle flakes are drifting down “through the thin fingered branches of the dark winter trees.” All is still and very little moves. You see a chickadee landing on a feeder with a “flutter” of wings. In the woods, you see a deer who looks at you before she disappears “ghostlike into the cover of the falling snow.”

Into the woods and then back into the town you go, exploring a landscape changed “by the cleansing white of the deep fallen snow.”

With a gloriously lyrical text and beautifully simple illustrations, Greg Budig has created a memorable picture book that has something to offer readers of all ages.
