It is a clear moonlit night, and little mouse wants to get home where his family is waiting for him, but he cannot remember the way. To make matters worse, the night is full of creatures that would like to snack on a little mouse. A pair of almond-shaped yellow eyes seem to glow in the dark, looking at little mouse. Luckily, the little animal wastes no time and he runs away before the owner of those yellow eyes, a fox, can catch him.

Little mouse is able to get away from the fox, but other predators await him in the darkness and he is going to have to dodge them all.

In this clever board book a simple text follows the adventures of a little mouse. The text encourages the little mouse to “Hurry along,” to “Watch out,” to “Look up,” and most of all to “Run home.” On six pages we see an eye or a pair of eyes looking out at us through cutouts in the page and we can try to guess who the eye or eyes belong to. Are those yellow eyes a cat’s eyes, or do they belong to a weasel? When we turn the page we see who the eyes belong to and we see the little mouse scampering away as fast as its little legs will carry him.

Children will have a grand time trying to guess who the eyes belong to, and they are sure to enjoy the surprising ending.
