Lion may be big and brave, but this does not mean that he can't be scared every so often, and he is scared now. He gives “a great big roar,” his mouth wide. What has frightened him? Could it be the animal that is making that chitter-chatter noise?

We soon see who is making the strange noise. It is Monkey, but she too is frightened. She is calling out “OOH-OOH-OOH!” Something with horns and a white beard is chasing after her. What kind of animal has horns and a white beard?

Why, Goat is the one who making poor Monkey so nervous. The strange thing is that Goat is also in a nervy state. She is giving a “startled BLEAT!” Some “yappy little animal” has scared her so much that she can't even finish nibbling the sock that is her treat.

In this clever novelty book young readers are given clues in the text and in the art to help them guess who the animal on the next page will be. All the animals have a wide open die cut mouth that little readers can see through when they turn the page. Best of all, children will discover that a very small and very quiet animal is responsible for this animal ruckus.
