Creating a garden can be a very rewarding and meaningful thing to do, and many children greatly enjoy working in the soil and making things grow. When you are starting from scratch, creating a garden can be a little intimidating. There are so many questions to answer. Where should we grow our plants? What should we plant? How do we make sure that our plants thrive and not die?

In this beautifully presented book, the resourceful team at DK help young would-be gardeners to understand how to grow plants, and how to use the spaces and resources they have to best effect.

An introductory section provides young gardeners with basic information about how to grow plants. They explain that a gardener’s job changes as the plants in the garden grow. The explain how to create a garden that is environmentally friendly, and how to “water, weed…and wait.”

In the next section, readers will learn how to plant and care for “flowers and unusual plants.” If you have pets and you want to grow treats for them like cat grass, Lucerne (for a dog) oats (for a rabbit) and timothy (for a guinea pig) then this is the chapter for you.

Section two looks at how to grow vegetables, herbs, and fruits. If you like to make and eat pizza then this is where you will find out how to grow all the veggies and herbs that you will need to top your pizza.

Throughout this book, young gardeners will find for than thirty interesting and fun projects to try. There are tips and tricks to learn, diagrams to look at, and much much more. Throughout the book there are full color photos that show gardeners what to do, how to do it, and what their projects will look like.

This book is a great title to share with children at home and at school. It beautifully captures how creative it is to garden, and how much fun gardening is to do.
