Every spring Jews all over the world celebrate a very special holiday called Passover. During this time Jews remember how their people, the Israelites, were persecuted by the Egyptian king long ago. This king was called Pharaoh and he had enslaved all the Israelites, refusing to let them leave Egypt or to have their freedom. On Passover Jews remember how the Israelites gained their freedom from this cruel man and how their people were led out of Egypt by Moses.
As part of the celebration Jews eat special foods, have family meals, read from books, and sing songs. It is a special time for everyone in the family and it even the youngest of children can participate.
