Miss Brooks is the children’s librarian in Missy’s town and she is book mad. She wears costumes for reading circle, and is so excited by the books that she reads that she infects all the children who come to the library with her passion for books. All of them except Missy. Missy thinks Miss Brooks is more than a little too much. Her enthusiasm is, in Missy’s opinion, “vexing.”
For Book Week Miss Brooks tells the children that they all need to “pick a favorite story to share with the class.” What’s even worse, they have to wear a costume and show everyone why they love that particular book. Missy tells Miss Brooks that she will never “love books the way you do.”
During Book Week Missy dislikes all the books that the other children choose pick as their “favorite book.” Miss Brooks sends more books home with Missy, in the hope that one of them will resonate with the little girl. Is there a book out there that Missy will like? Is there a book that will finally excite her?
In this deliciously funny book, readers will get to meet a wonderful librarian and a contrary child who is determined to dislike books. Barbra Bottner’s clever text is perfectly paired with Michael Emberley’s amusing and expressive illustrations.
