Once children have learned the primary colors, they can begin a new journey to learn how secondary colors such as orange, purple, green, and grey are created by combining two primary colors.

In this pop-up book James Diaz uses pop-ups to show children how one can mix two colors to make a brand new color. For example, on the first spread we see how one can “Blend red and yellow to create” the color orange. Where the red and yellow pages meet an orange three-dimensional sculpture of balloon like shapes rises off the page.

For each color combination explored in the book, a unique colorful paper sculpture has been created, and a simple text tells children which primary colors are being used to create a secondary color.

At the back of the book another paper sculpture provides children with new color combinations to look at, and a pull-the-tab feature demonstrates how primary colors can be used to create secondary ones.
