Gold is found in the Klondike

On August 16th, 1896 a small group of people discovered gold in Bonanza Creek in the Yukon. When word got out about the find, a veritable stampede of people rushed to the Yukon to try their luck in the gold fields. Not many people actually made their fortunes, and many gold seekers went home with empty pockets. Readers who are interested in this topic might like to look at the California Gold Rush feature
