Ellis Island and the immigrant experience
Ellis Island is situated in New York Harbor, and from 1892 until 1954 it was the main arrival location for immigrants coming to the United States. It is now part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument.
For more on the immigrant experience, see features on the Statue of Liberty and the North American Immigrant Experience.
