Rembrandt van Rijn

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, often just know as Rembrandt, was one of the greatest painters of all time. He painted during the Dutch Golden Age, in the 1600's. He was also a teacher, teaching nearly every important Dutch painter of his time. His style was one that portrayed the human condition with empathy. His paintings can be seen in most of the world's great art museums, including the Louvre, the National Gallery (London) and the Hermitage (St. Petersburg). For more on the topic see the feature on Art and Artists.
