Kitten's Summer

Kitten's Summer

Eugenie Fernandes
Picture Book
For ages 4 to 6
Kids Can Press, 2011   ISBN: 978-1554533428

It is a rainy summer’s day and Kitten is out in the garden. She is running around looking for a dry place to take shelter, and she is not the only one trying to get away from the rain. In a tree, little squirrels take shelter in their nest, and a mother robin covers her babies with her wing. On the ground, the fox hides under a fallen tree and a little mouse hides in a bucket. In the barn the cow, sheep, and chicken watch as the pig scampers across the farmyard.

In this truly beautiful picture book, Eugenie Fernandes pairs a minimal text with her gorgeous polymer clay and mixed media artwork. Children will enjoy looking for Kitten on the spreads, and exploring the pictures that almost seem to jump off the page.
