It is the summer vacation, and Henry and Mudge are going to the beach. Mudge has never been to the beach before, and Henry tells him what to expect. He advises his big dog not to drink the water because it is "too salty."

After a song-filled drive, Henry, Mudge, and Henry's father arrive at the beach. They waste no time, and soon they are running across the sand to splash into the ocean. Mudge gets so wet that he looking like "a whale with legs." They all have a wonderful time playing in the water, building sandcastles, and eating seaside treats.

In this delightful summery book, young readers who are ready to read on their own can enjoy four sun-filled chapters. In her story, Cynthia Rylant perfectly captures the essence of a splendid day on the beach.

This is just one in a large collection of books about Henry and Mudge.
