The sun is coming up, the twinkling stars are fading, and Bird is awake. And he is grumpy. He is so grumpy in fact that he cannot eat, play or fly. In his current state of grumpiness all Bird can do is to walk.

Bird walks past Sheep, who politely wishes Bird a good morning and asks him what he is doing. Bird answers with one word: “Walking.” Not put off by Bird’s obvious bad mood, Sheep offers to go with Bird to “keep you company.”

As they walk along, Bird and Sheep are joined by Rabbit, Raccoon, Beaver, and Fox. Bird’s mood does not improve at all. In fact, he actually seems to get grumpier and some of the things that he says to his friends are rather rude. His friends stick by him though, and on they walk.

Sometimes, when a person is in a mood, it takes the love and patience of others to make that mood go away. This funny story perfectly captures what a case of bad-mood-itis can be like, and children will be delighted when they see how the problem is solved in the end.
