Children are sometimes frustrated by the fact that the horse they have drawn simply won’t look like a horse. It looks like a dog instead. Though the grown-ups in their lives don’t mind a horse that looks like a dog or a rabbit that looks like a cat, the children still get annoyed. This book is prefect for young artists who want to draw animals and who need a little direction. Using squares, triangles, circles, rectangles, and other basic forms and shapes a child can create everything from a fire breathing dragon to a sheep. Indeed a child could create a whole zoo or farm, an African savannah scene, or an ocean scene complete with fish, whales, sharks, crabs and an octopus.
This is yet another wonderful Ed Emberley title which encourages children to use their creative drawing abilities. Best of all, the author encourages his readers to expand on his drawing techniques, using his basic methods to create unique artwork that is all their own.
