There is something about Dr. Seuss’s artwork that makes people smile. His characters are so expressive, and his images have just the right amount of goofiness.

In this wonderful board book the Little Cats A, B, and C share one hundred words with us that young children will want to know. These are the kinds of words that they will use often and that will help them to communicate with the people in their lives. For each word children are given an illustration so that they can start putting together the words and their meanings.

We begin with a two pages full of animals, which is a very good place to start as everyone knows that children love animals. On the left hand page are wild animals like an elephant and an alligator, and on the right hand page are farm animals. Here children will see a funny looking sheep, and they will also see Little Cats B and C milking a cow.

Next we move on to mealtime and food words. We see pictures of a high chair and a bib, and images of a pear, a cracker, and cereal.

Then we go outside where Little Cat A is flying a kite. Here we see the sun and a cloud, a bee and a bird’s nest. Little Cat B is at home and there we see, among other things, a window, a clock, and a chair.

Other topics explored in this book are myself, toys, colors, things that go, clothes, pets, bathtime, and bedtime. Brightly colored illustrations, solid board pages, and the companionship of Little Cats A, B, and C, make this a perfect book to share with a small child.
