Many children are captivated by dinosaurs. They watch movies about dinosaurs, read books about dinosaurs, wear dinosaur costumes at Halloween, draw pictures of dinosaurs, and even have a grand time pretending to be dinosaurs. When then go to a museum of natural history the dinosaur exhibit is always the first place they want to visit.

This book was created just for young dinosaur fans who can’t get enough of dinosaur ‘stuff.’ On the pages children will meet eight kinds of dinosaurs, and on every spread they will find all kinds of dinosaur facts, beginning with how to pronounce the names of the dinosaurs featured in the book. They will then learn where the dinosaurs lived, what they ate, and some other facts about their behavior and physiology. Best of all, perhaps, children will get to look at a three-dimensional pop-up dinosaur on every spread.

For example on the first spread we meet Triceratops, that three-horned creature beloved by children. We see the paper dinosaur rise out of the pages as we open them, and then learn that its name means “three-horned face,” which is very appropriate. These animals lived in the woodlands of western North America, and they were herbivores. We also learn that only two of the horns were hard and useful for defensive purposes. The third horn on the animal’s snout was very short and was made out of softer material.

On the next spread we meet a much smaller dinosaur. The Velociraptor was about the size of a big chicken and ran about on its back legs to catch prey. We believe that these animals were probably quite intelligent and that they hunted in packs to bring down larger prey dinosaurs.

Other dinosaurs that appear on the pages of this book are Stegosaurus, Archeopteryx, Brachiosaurus, Diplodocus, Anklyosaurus, and the king of them all, Tyrannosaurus.
