There is something about big machines that little children find captivating. Though they may be slightly frightened of the huge metal monsters, children are still drawn to those huge wheels, the grasping claws, and those oh so wonderful load noises such machines make.

In this splendid book Steve Light, who brought us Trucks Go, introduces us to eight wonderful construction (and destruction) machines. We see their big wheels with their heavy-duty treads, their claws, buckets and scrapers, and the smoke belching out of their exhaust pipes. And, perhaps best of all, Steve Light gives us the wonderfully LOUD noises that these machines make. We hear how a forklift makes a series of loud beeping noises, which is then followed by a satisfying “Whirrrffftt Bonk.”  We revel in the “RRUUMBLE” and “SCRUUMBLE” that a bulldozer makes as it pushes earth before it. We delight in the fantastic “BOOOOOOOOOM!” that a wrecking ball makes when it hits a brick wall.

With wonderful illustrations and the best noise words, this board book is a must for little children who like big machines.
