It is morning and the farm animals are waking up. The chickens, still “beneath blue blankets” yawn, stretch, and try to get their eyes to open. Not far off someone is typing something on the typewriter. Duck grabs the piece of paper when it is ready and dashes off, sending little chicks flying. As Duck delivers his important message to everyone, the other animals get ready.

When we next see Duck he is pulling a wagon and in it there is a basket full of…well…something. We cannot see what is in the basket but it must contain something nice because all the mice are showing a great deal of interest in it.

Duck quacks out a message to the pigs as he and the mice go by. What is Duck up to and where is he going with that wagon?

What make this alphabet book so special is that the author and illustrator tell us a story as they look at the letters of the alphabet from A to Z. On each page, short phrases explore words that begin with a letter of the alphabet. These phrases include “Animals Awake” for the letter A, “Kittens kicking” for the letter K and “Sheep Sleeping” for the letter S. As the story unfolds children are going to enjoy finding out where Duck is going and what is going to happen next.
