Farmer Gray is going to be gone for the day, so Blue Goose, Red hen, Yellow Chick and White Duck decide that they are going to paint their barnyard, which is quite grey and dull. Soon Duck is painting the fence white, Chick is painting the flowers yellow, Hen is painting the barn red, and Goose is painting the roof blue. Then the animals get busy creating some new colors by mixing together the colors they have. They want to make the door purple, the shutters orange, the sky light blue, and the grass and trees green.

In this charming board book, four farm animals turn their bland environment into a colorful place. Little children will be amused to see how the animals paint the sky, and then how they figure out how to paint the sun, which is not easy to reach.

As this story is read to them, little children will see how two colors can be mixed together to create an altogether new color.
