The sun has gone down and the last glowing colors of sunset are leaving the sky. Stars are “blinking / in sleepy dark skies” and the animals that live in the meadow are getting ready for bedtime.

Butterfly settles down to nap on a cattail, and nearby Meadowlark roosts on the branch of a willow tree. Overlooking the pond a mother fox and her kits cuddle together in their den “a patchwork of orange.” On a lily pad a father frog snores while his tadpoles in the water nearby “dream deeply in warm, muddy silt.”

In this delightful board book a soothing rhyming text describes bedtime in an animal community. Soft illustrations show us the animals preparing for bedtime and then at rest in their respective sleeping places.

This is a perfect book to share with young children at bedtime.
