Christopher Wormell

Christopher Wormell was born in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, in 1955. On leaving school in 1973 he studied painting with his father while working at numerous temporary of part time jobs.

In 1982, inspired by the work of Thomas Bewick, Reynolds Stone and Charles Tunnicliffe among others, he took up wood engraving. He became a full time illustrator in 1984 and began writing and illustrating his own picture books in 1999.

Recent work includes a stamp design for the Royal Mail millennium set, Neighbourhood Watch images for the Metropolitan Police Force, package designs for Waitrose and a billboard poster campaign for Adnams Beer.

His most recent book is The Big Ugly Monster and the Little Stone Rabbit, published in the UK by Jonathan Cape in 2004.

His work has been exhibited at The Victoria and Albert Museum (1998), The Fouts and Fowler Gallery, London (1990) and The Artworks Gallery, London (1994).

Christopher Wormell lives in North London with his wife, Mary and three children: Jack, Daisy and Eliza.
