Mary Amato

Mary Amato began writing at the age of seven--in a travel journal that her mother gave her on a trip to California. She got hooked on the process of writing her observations. As a teen, she turned to her journals to express her emotions. At the time, she wanted to be a writer, but didn't think it was possible.

She got an undergraduate degree in teaching and taught for a few years before leaving the field to try to make it as a writer. Now, Mary is an award-winning author of books for children and young adults as well as a singer-songwriter. Her books have been translated into foreign languages, optioned for television, produced onstage, and have won the children’s choice awards in several states.
