Some of the topics chosen are pleasantly surprising, and some are comfortingly familiar and reassuring in their message. For example the letter Y is described as "being for You and all you will be in this greatest of countries, the land of the free" and F "is for Freedom and the Flag that we Fly"

Every page in "America: A Patriotic Primer" is packed with Robin Preiss Glasser's highly detailed artwork: portraits, scenes, beautiful borders, frames, and decorated letters. Many of her pictures are annotated with interesting details about America and its people and with quotes written by famous Americans and others. The author Lynne Cheney has brought together enough fascinating information to keep the reader busy for a long time.
